Dear Parents of Kindergartens,
Your child has completed the Alf Booklet and is working on the Doc Booklet. (Alf and Doc are some of the SuperKids in our Rowland Reading Program). After I fill out an assessment sheet, I will return the Alf book. Your child is working very hard!

Dear Parents of First and Second Graders,
We have completed Units 1 and 2. I will be reviewing their booklets and then sending them home. We will start Unit 3 on Monday, October 25th. Also, approximately every two weeks your child will have a Spelling Test. We are working on many things in First and Second Grade.

Galaxy Kids Testing!
The students from Room 100 were administered the DIBELS. The acronym stands for Dynamic Indicators for Basic Early Literacy Skills. The testing process went very well. I will be sharing the results of the test with parents during conferences.
Also, Kindergarten Students were given a progress test to evaluate their understandings of the past SuperKids Units. It included identifying letters (previously covered), initial letter sounds, and initial letter-sound correspondence.
The First and Second Grade Students took the placement test after completing their SuperKids Welcome Back Book. It included many reading skills, such as discriminating letter-sounds, identifying letters, reading memory words, drawing conclusions, and writing a sentence.
First and Second Grade will have their second spelling test this Friday. Please practice the memory words and pattern words. A letter will be sent home on Wednesday, which lists the words.
Have a great week! :)

Reading Logs
Please send back your child's September Reading Log to school. I will be looking over them. Also, please continue to record your child's reading in his or her October Reading Log. Thank you for showing your child the importance of reading!
Apple Holler
Room 100 had a fabulous time at Apple Holler! First, we listened to a play about Johnny Appleseed. Then, we went on a Hayride through the apple orchards. We picked a pumpkin and an apple on our trip. We got to eat our juicy apple on the Hayride. Finally, we went through an enchanted forest filled with animals.
Below are some photographs of students on the hay ride and at Apple Holler.
