Polar Bears

Dear parents,

Elisha prepared a science lesson demonstrating how polar bears keep warm. She accessed our prior knowledge about polar bears. Next, she presented a poster she created with photographs and facts about them. The class helped Elisha create blubber with ziplock bags and crisco. The blubber, animal fat, enables polar bears to conserve heat. Then, students touched snow contained in a cooler. Elisha placed the blubbler, ziplock bags with crisco, inside the snow. Every student determined that the animal fat allows the polar bear to stay warm in their environment. Finally, the students decorated pictures of polar bears.
