What's Inside the Egg?

Dear parents,

Nino presented his science experiment on March 23. He reviewed our five senses and explained his experiment. Students used their sense of hearing to predict what was inside each of the plastic eggs. Students enjoyed making predictions as well as confirming or denying their predictions. Thanks Nino for the fun experiment!

International Week

Dear parents,

The students enjoyed a presentation on Poland. They viewed photographs, maps, and more! They tasted pierogies, polish candy, and desserts. Below are photographs of our great experience.

Hands On Approach

Dear parents,

Students are working hard in Room 201. We are learning about math through a hands on approach. In kindergarten students are using cubes to help measure (in non standard units). First graders students are exploring with shapes as we being our unit on Geometry. Second graders are leaning about tens and ones through manipulatives as well. Students are given a few minutes to play or explore the manipulatives and then students use them in our math lesson. Students are required to answer the question, as well as explain how they arrived at that answer. Explaining the answer is a higher ordered thinking skill. This is one way the Academy challenges your child every day.

Dr. Seuss's Birthday

Dear parents,

March 2 is Dr. Seuss's Birthday. The multi-age classroom celebrated his birthday by reading books he had written and other activities. Ms. Kim cooked green eggs and each student tried them, like in the story. Some of the students liked them and some of us did not.  Students also played Dr. Seuss's Tic Tac Toe.  The students enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss's Birthday.

Lima Beans

3/2/11

Dear parents,

Carys provided a wonderful science experiment to the class. She brought in lima beans and distributed them to each student. She identified the parts of a lima bean; seed cover, food, and baby plant. Students located the baby plant with a magnifying glass. Carys also sent a science experiment to be completed at home. Students have the opportunity to test if a lima bean will live without air, water, food, or sunlight. The students already made their predictions about what the lima bean will need to survive. I look forward to hearing what happens to their lima bean experiments at home.
