DIBELS and Reader's Theater

Dear parents,

During Valentine's Day week I administered the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) to the students. The kindergarten test contained beginning phonemes (sounds), phoneme segmentation (chopping out the sounds) and used words in sentences. The first and second grade test included phoneme segmentation (chopping out the sounds in words), nonsense word fluency (chopping out the sounds in pretend words) and oral reading fluency (the number of words the child can read in a minute). The students did well.  The students will receive their dibels results and report cards on Friday, March 11th.

Since I was testing the students individually, Mr. Tom taught Religion. He discussed the birth of Jesus. The students learned how Mary and Joseph had no where to stay. Then, they finally came to a stable. Mr. Tom guided the students to act out the story. Below are some photographs of students playing Jesus, Mary, Joseph, shepards, the angel, the inn keepers, and animals in the stable.

Respectfully,
Rachel Sibick
