The students are learning how to S.S.R (self-selected reading). They are learning to pick a book out of their color group (these groups will change in relation to child's needs and growth). In addition to selecting a book, looking at the pictures, and reading, students relate the book to something they already know. Also, the students understand people read to comprehend or read for meaning. The class also enjoys reading to a hand puppet. The students take turns using these on rotating days.
Students are energetic during math and reading time while they learn concepts through games. Kindergarten students are learning about number sense by matching the number to a quantity. In the another game, the students match the correct ladybug to the number of spots. Moreover, students will match beginning sounds and rhyming words from the picture and letter flashcards.
Respectfully,
Rachel Sibick
